Matinee favourite Alfie Boe has released brand new music.

The Tony Award-winning performer has unveiled ‘Meanwhile Gardens’, the first single from his forthcoming studio album Face Myself, due for release on 10 April 2026. The track is out now and offers the first glimpse into a deeply personal new chapter in Boe’s recording career.

Produced by Tim Bran and Roy Kerr, the acclaimed duo behind MyRiot, Face Myself marks the first time Boe has released a collection built predominantly around original material. The album explores themes of identity, fatherhood, reflection and resilience, written from a place of personal honesty.

Speaking about the record, Boe said:
“I thought, what is it about me that I have to face? For me, it was a number of moments in the past — my childhood, my teenage years, what got me to where I am today, my personal life. It’s been a really important lesson for me to face myself and realise who I am as an artist now and connect with that. I’m just writing from the heart and telling my story.”

The songwriting process was encouraged by rock legend Pete Townshend, who previously worked with Boe on the symphonic live tour of Quadrophenia. Townshend’s advice was simple: write freely and honestly. That approach helped unlock what Boe describes as something “raw, earthy and real”.

Lead single ‘Meanwhile Gardens’ reflects that sentiment. The song is centred around trust, partnership and finding simplicity amid the pressures of modern life.

“Ultimately, the song is about trusting someone close to you and asking them to believe in you,” Boe explains. “It’s about saying: ‘Let’s live our dreams together, let’s plant them, and travel down that road hand in hand.’”

The title refers to a real garden in West London, near where the album was recorded — a quiet place to pause, reflect and “plant dreams”. The lyrics also draw on Boe’s time living in New York, where he describes the “giants in a cityscape” as both literal skyscrapers and symbolic powers shaping ambition and opportunity.

Face Myself arrives following an extraordinary two decades for Boe. With over a dozen studio albums, four UK number ones and multi-platinum sales, he has become one of Britain’s most recognisable vocalists. His collaborations with Michael Ball produced record-breaking albums including Together and Back Together, while his stage work — most notably as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables — remains career-defining.

Now, alongside the new album, Alfie Boe will embark on a 36-date UK tour across April and May 2026, culminating in a performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The tour promises a setlist blending new material from Face Myself with favourites from across his remarkable career.
