Full casting has been announced for Pride, a brand new British musical based on the award-winning film, which will receive its world premiere at the National Theatre in summer 2026, following a preview run at Sherman Theatre, Cardiff.
Produced by P&P Productions with the National Theatre in association with Pathé, the production reunites director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford, whose collaboration brings the true story of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) to the stage.
The musical will play the Dorfman Theatre from 11 June to 12 September 2026, with preview performances at Sherman Theatre in Cardiff from 31 March to 18 April 2026.
The newly announced cast includes Samuel Barnett as Jonathan, Lewis Cornay as Bromley, Matthew Durkan as Mike, Gillian Elisa as Gwen, Robin Hayward as Martin, Chris Jenkins as Gethin, Darren Lawrence as Cliff, Jhon Lumsden as Mark, Kirsty Malpass as Hefina, Sarah Pugh as Sian, Jordan Shaw as Reggie, Courtney Stapleton as Steph, Caroline Sheen as Maureen, Mared Williams as Margaret and Matthew Woodyatt as Dai.
They are joined by an ensemble including Daniel Forrester, Madeleine Morgan, Catherine Morris and Graham Vick.
Set during the 1984 miners’ strike, Pride follows activist Mark Ashton and a group of friends who form LGSM, offering support to a small mining village in south Wales. What begins as an act of solidarity grows into a powerful alliance between two communities, revealing shared values, unexpected friendships and lasting change.

The musical features a book and lyrics by Stephen Beresford, with original music by Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen and DJ Walde. The score draws on a wide musical palette, with influences ranging from protest anthems and pop to disco, rock and Welsh choral traditions.
Director Matthew Warchus said he is looking forward to working with the company to bring this story to the stage, describing it as a remarkable and joy-filled true story.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Bunny Christie, choreographer Lizzi Gee, lighting designer Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Bobby Aitken, music supervisor Tom Kelly and music director Jo Cichonska, alongside a large associate and production team.
