In Rehearsal: The Addams Family

02-07-25

The Addams Family are heading back on the road this summer, and the cast are in rehearsals. The much-loved musical comedy, based on Charles Addams’s iconic characters, will visit Birmingham, Leicester, Salford, Canterbury and Blackpool, with a sparkling new company and some familiar faces.

Leading the cast, Alexandra Burke returns to the role of Morticia Addams, bringing her powerful stage presence and vocals after appearances in The Bodyguard, Sister Act and Curfew. Ricardo Afonso takes on the role of Gomez, alongside Lesley Joseph as Grandma and Clive Rowe as Uncle Fester. Lauren Jones plays Wednesday Addams, Nicholas McLean appears as Pugsley, and Dickon Gough returns to the role of Lurch, having been part of the original UK cast. Rounding out the principal cast are Dale Rapley as Mal, Jacob Fowler as Lucas and Kara Lane as Alice.

New ensemble cast members include Jak Allen-Anderson, Abigail Brodie, JR Ballantyne, Eamonn Cox, Siobhan Diffin, Maria Garrett, Chloe Gentles and Sario Solomon. This dynamic ensemble also covers key roles including Morticia, Gomez, Fester, Alice, Wednesday and more.

The Addams Family musical features a book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa. It follows Wednesday Addams, now grown up and in love with a perfectly normal young man — a secret she shares only with Gomez. As the Addamses prepare for a fateful dinner with their daughter’s new in-laws, chaos, secrets and unexpected tenderness unfold.

Directed by Matthew White, the show features choreography by Alistair David, design by Diego Pitarch, orchestrations by Richard Beadle, lighting by Ben Cracknell and sound design by Richard Brooker. Casting is by Jane Deitch.
