Wicked Celebrates 15th Birthday in London’s West End admin
17-04-26
Casting has been announced for this summer’s production of Million Dollar Quartet at the Barn Theatre, with Darren Day set to play Sam Phillips.
The production runs from 15 June to 22 August 2026, with a national press night on 18 June, and is directed by Jonathan O’Boyle. Additional casting is yet to be announced.
Million Dollar Quartet is based on one of the most famous moments in music history. On 4 December 1956, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Elvis Presley came together at Sun Records in Memphis for an impromptu jam session. The recording, led by producer Sam Phillips, would go on to become a defining moment in the development of rock and roll.

The stage production recreates that session, combining live performance with a narrative built around ambition, rivalry and the pressures of early fame. The score features a series of era-defining tracks including Blue Suede Shoes, Fever, Walk the Line and Hound Dog, placing the audience inside the studio as the music unfolds.
Day takes on the role of Sam Phillips, the producer often credited with shaping the careers of all four artists. His casting brings extensive musical theatre experience to the production. He first came to prominence after winning Opportunity Knocks in 1988, before achieving major West End success in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the London Palladium.
His stage credits include leading roles in Les Misérables, Grease, The Rocky Horror Show, Chicago, Priscilla Queen of the Desert and We Will Rock You, alongside a wide range of touring and concert performances. His career also spans television and recording, including appearances at the Royal Variety Performance and work with Abbey Road Studios.
The production marks a return for Million Dollar Quartet to the Barn Theatre, which has built a reputation for producing high-quality musical revivals and original work. The venue continues to attract strong casting for its in-house productions, drawing audiences from across the Cotswolds and beyond.
Barn Theatre CEO and Artistic Director Iwan Lewis described the casting as a natural fit, highlighting the connection between Phillips’ influence on the music industry and Day’s own long-standing career in musical theatre.
With its focus on a single, pivotal moment in music history, Million Dollar Quartet remains one of the most accessible jukebox-style productions, driven by recognisable songs and a clear narrative framework.
The show runs at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester from 15 June to 22 August 2026, with further casting to be announced.
