Million Dollar Quartet to embark on major UK tour in 2027

The Barn Theatre’s acclaimed production of Million Dollar Quartet is hitting the road, with Darren Day leading a major UK tour in 2027. Following its current London season at The Arts at Marble Arch, the production will visit 23 venues between January and July, opening at Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff on 26 January.

Day will continue in the role of Sam Phillips, the record producer who brought Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins together for the legendary recording session that inspired the musical. The tour is the latest chapter for Jonathan O’Boyle’s production, which began life at the Barn Theatre in Cirencester earlier this year before transferring to London.

Its current season has another particularly appropriate date in the diary. Million Dollar Quartet will be playing in London on 4 December 2026, exactly 70 years after Presley, Cash, Lewis and Perkins found themselves together at Sun Records in Memphis for their impromptu jam session. The musical recreates that night and features hits including “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Fever”, “Walk the Line” and “Hound Dog”.

After opening in Cardiff from 26 to 30 January, the tour heads to Southend, Liverpool, Glasgow and Bromley during February. Further dates take the production to Ipswich, Cheltenham, Darlington, Bradford, Windsor, Derby, Eastbourne, Swindon, Aberdeen, Portsmouth, Hertford, Carlisle, Crewe, Wolverhampton, Fareham, Blackpool and Chelmsford before the tour concludes at Malvern Theatres from 12 to 17 July.

Darren Day’s casting for the tour follows his appearance in both the Barn Theatre and London runs. Further casting for the 2027 dates has yet to be announced.

O’Boyle directs from the book by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux, with choreography by Joanna Goodwin. Libby Watson provides set and costume design, Alex Musgrave is lighting designer and Nick Lodge is responsible for sound. Musical supervision is by Lee Freeman, with casting by Harry Blumenau. The original Million Dollar Quartet opened on Broadway in 2010, receiving three Tony Award nominations and winning Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Levi Kreis as Jerry Lee Lewis. Its West End premiere followed at the Noël Coward Theatre in 2011, with the musical later returning to London during a UK tour in 2016 and 2017. The new tour continues the journey of the Barn Theatre production from Cirencester to the West End and now venues across the country.

Million Dollar Quartet is currently playing at The Arts at Marble Arch until 6 December 2026. The UK tour opens at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff on 26 January 2027 and concludes at Malvern Theatres on 17 July.
