06-10-26
Rent has extended its West End run at the Tom Stoppard Theatre, with 35,000 additional tickets released following demand for the new production.

Jonathan Larson’s Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical is now booking until 29 May 2027, extending a season which began previews on 26 September. The extension comes as Rent celebrates 30 years since its Broadway premiere, with new production images from the London revival also released.

Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo leads the company as Mark, alongside Travis Ross as Roger and Alexa Lopez as Mimi. They are joined by Billy Nevers as Collins, Lazy Violet as Maureen, Olivier Award nominee Danielle Fiamanya as Joanne, Jeevan Braich as Angel and Joaquin Pedro Valdes as Benny. The company is completed by Baylie Carson, Laura Delany, Ryesha Higgs, Montoya Holloway-Johnson, Rhys Hopkins, Shem Omari James, Hannah Macpherson, TJ Matara-Holloway, Ryan Nixon, Leah Vassell, James Wilkinson-Jones and Kevin Yates. Set in New York’s East Village and inspired by Puccini’s La Bohème, Rent follows a group of artists, musicians and friends navigating relationships, creativity and an uncertain future.

Larson wrote the musical’s book, music and lyrics. It premiered at New York Theatre Workshop in 1996 before transferring to Broadway, where it ran for 12 years. The new West End production is directed by Luke Sheppard, whose recent London credits include Paddington The Musical, & Juliet and Starlight Express. Sheppard also has history with Rent , having previously directed Hope Mill Theatre’s revival, which won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Regional Production. Tom Jackson Greaves provides choreography, with set design by David Woodhead, costumes by Gabriella Slade, lighting by Howard Hudson, sound by Paul Gatehouse and video design and cinematography by George Reeve and Nathan Amzi. Bill Sherman is musical supervisor and orchestrator, with Katy Richardson serving as musical director and associate musical supervisor. The West End production is presented by Chris Harper Productions, Sonia Friedman Productions, Winkler & Smalberg and Julie Larson in association with Hope Mill Theatre. With its initial run now extended, RENT continues at the Tom Stoppard Theatre until 29 May 2027.
