Carrie Hope Fletcher is a true Matinee favourite and musical star — so it’s sweet news that she’ll be behind the counter! Producers Barry & Fran Weissler and David Ian for Crossroads Live have confirmed today that Waitress will return to tour the UK and Ireland in 2026, with Carrie Hope Fletcher leading as Jenna for a limited run.
She’s due to appear in Wimbledon, Brighton, Bradford, Woking, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Dublin, Manchester and Cardiff, with further casting and dates still to be announced. Fans in the north-west can already circle 26–30 May 2026, when Waitress rolls into Manchester Palace Theatre.
Carrie’s theatre career is a catalogue of fan-favourite roles: Cinderella in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella, Veronica Sawyer in Heathers, Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family, Fantine and Éponine in Les Misérables, plus Once in Concert, Treason, The Crown Jewels and Calamity Jane. Along the way she’s collected multiple WhatsOnStage Awards and earned a devoted following.
Waitress itself has become a modern classic. Based on Adrienne Shelly’s 2007 film, the musical features a book by Jessie Nelson and music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winner Sara Bareilles. Directed by Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus with choreography by Lorin Latarro, the show first opened on Broadway in 2016 before transferring to London’s Adelphi Theatre in 2019. Since then, it’s been seen in North America, Japan, Holland, Canada and Mexico — a recipe that travels well.
The story follows Jenna, a small-town pie maker stuck in a loveless marriage. A baking contest and a new doctor offer her the chance of change, but true transformation comes from her own courage. It’s a tale of resilience, friendship, motherhood and the magic of a well-made pie.
