Disney releases live-action Moana soundtrack ahead of cinema debut next Friday

With days to go until Disney’s live-action Moana sails into cinemas, the film’s original soundtrack has been released.

Available now on all major streaming platforms – and playlisted on Matinee Musicals – the album reunites the creative team behind the beloved 2016 animated classic, with original songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foaʻi and Mark Mancina.

Alongside familiar favourites including How Far I’ll Go, You’re Welcome, We Know the Way and Shiny, the soundtrack also introduces brand-new song Along The Way, which has already emerged as the film’s lead single.

The soundtrack features performances from the film’s cast, including Catherine Lagaʻaia as Moana and Dwayne Johnson returning as Maui. The closing version of Along The Way also reunites Johnson with original animated Moana star Auliʻi Cravalho.

The live-action adaptation stars Catherine Lagaʻaia as the adventurous wayfinder alongside Dwayne Johnson, reprising his role as the charismatic demigod Maui. Directed by Tony and Emmy Award winner Thomas Kail, the film follows Moana as she ventures beyond the reef of Motunui to restore prosperity to her people.

Fans won’t have long to wait for even more music. A deluxe digital edition of the soundtrack arrives on 8 July, featuring instrumental versions of every song, while the original score will be released digitally on 10 July alongside the film’s cinema debut.

Collectors will also be able to pick up the soundtrack on vinyl, with pre-orders now available.

Later this month, Disney will also release Moana: Voices Across The Ocean, a companion album inspired by the music and cultures of the Pacific. Executive produced by Dwayne Johnson, the collection will feature original songs performed by artists from across seven Pacific island cultures, including Stan Walker, Dinah Jane, Iam Tongi, Paula Fuga, Maoli and Common Kings.

The live-action Moana arrives in UK cinemas on 10 July.
