Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award winner (and Matinee favourite) Ben Platt will make his Menier Chocolate Factory stage debut this summer, starring in the UK premiere of Midnight at The Never Get. The production marks Platt’s first full London theatre run and opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory for a strictly limited season.

Written and composed by Golden Globe and Grammy Award winner and Academy Award nominee Mark Sonnenblick, Midnight at The Never Get arrives in London in a brand-new production directed by Tony and Drama Desk Award winner David Cromer. The musical had its original New York premiere in 2023 and now receives its UK premiere in the intimate setting of the Menier.

Set in New York City in 1965, Midnight at The Never Get centres on Trevor Copeland and Arthur Brightman, two men whose relationship is illegal in a society that demands secrecy. By night, they perform together in a hidden nightclub act called “Midnight”, singing love songs as an act of quiet resistance. As social tensions rise and a historic movement gathers momentum, the pair must navigate the conflict between personal safety and living openly, with the outside world closing in around them.

Platt takes on the role of Trevor Copeland, marking his first wholly original musical role since Dear Evan Hansen. His return to the London stage follows last year’s three-week solo residency Ben Platt: Live at the Palace, which reopened the Palace Theatre. He was most recently seen as Leo Frank in Parade at New York City Center, which later transferred to Broadway and earned him his second Tony Award nomination.

The production reunites Platt with Sonnenblick, with whom he previously collaborated on the film Theater Camp. Sonnenblick’s recent work includes co-writing seven songs for the Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation film KPop Demon Hunters, including the global hit “Golden”. His stage credits also include contributions to The Devil Wears Prada, currently running in the West End.

Direction is by David Cromer, whose extensive theatre credits include The Band’s Visit, which earned him the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical, as well as Good Night and Good Luck, The Sound Inside and Prayer for the French Republic. Cromer’s approach brings a stripped-back, actor-focused lens to Sonnenblick’s score, with the Menier transformed into the nightclub world of The Never Get.

Design for the production is by Scott Pask. Further casting will be announced.

Midnight at The Never Get opens at the Menier Chocolate Factory on 20 July, with previews from 11 July, and runs until 12 September 2026. Press night is scheduled for 20 July. Priority booking for Menier supporters opens on 2 March, with public priority booking from 11 March.

The production is presented by the Menier Chocolate Factory in association with Greg Berlanti and Robbie Rogers, and ATG Productions.
