The first casting has been announced for the inaugural UK and Ireland tour of Back to the Future The Musical.

Tony Award-winning stage and screen star Roger Bart will return to the role of Doc Brown, having originated the character in Manchester before going on to perform the role in the West End, on Broadway and in Sydney. He will be joined by Australian performer Axel Duffy, who will play Marty McFly after originating the role in the Australian production.

Bart is currently scheduled to appear in the tour’s opening engagements at Bristol Hippodrome (8 October to 21 November 2026) and Edinburgh Playhouse (2 December 2026 to 2 January 2027). Casting for Doc Brown in the remainder of the tour is yet to be announced.

Producer Colin Ingram said the production team were “thrilled” to welcome Bart back to the DeLorean, while also introducing UK audiences to Duffy’s portrayal of Marty McFly.

Bart received a Tony Award nomination for his performance as Doc Brown on Broadway and has become closely associated with the role across multiple international productions. His stage credits include The Producers, Young Frankenstein, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown, Disaster! and Hercules. His screen work includes Desperate Housewives, 30 Rock, A Series of Unfortunate Events and Grace and Frankie.

Duffy’s theatre credits include Oklahoma!, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Grease, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and international tours with The Tap Pack.

Based on the 1985 film starring Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, Back to the Future The Musical features a book by Bob Gale and original music by Alan Silvestri and Glen Ballard, alongside songs from the film including The Power of Love and Johnny B. Goode.

The production closed in London’s West End earlier this year after a five-year run at the Adelphi Theatre, where it was seen by more than 2.3 million people.
