“And now whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend…”
The witches are back—one last time.
The highly anticipated trailer for Wicked: For Good has officially dropped, offering a glimpse into the emotional, spectacular final chapter of the most successful Broadway musical film adaptation ever. Following the record-breaking success of 2024’s Wicked, which soared to $750 million at the global box office and earned ten Academy Award® nominations, this sequel promises a dazzling, heartfelt conclusion to the story that redefined Oz.
Returning to the director’s chair is Jon M. Chu, whose visionary touch gave the first instalment its cinematic magic. Also returning are powerhouse leads Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande as Elphaba and Glinda—former friends now on opposite paths in a land unraveling around them.
Elphaba, demonized as the Wicked Witch of the West, lives in hiding deep within the forests of Oz. Branded a threat to the realm, she continues to fight for the freedom of silenced Animals and seeks to expose the dark truth behind the rule of the Wizard—played once again by Jeff Goldblum.
Glinda, by contrast, is the polished public face of Goodness. Dressed in sparkling gowns and paraded through Emerald City, she works under the watchful guidance of Madame Morrible (played by Michelle Yeoh, fresh off her Oscar® win), helping to maintain the illusion that all is well in the Wizard’s world.
As Glinda prepares to marry Prince Fiyero (portrayed by Jonathan Bailey, in a role that fuses nobility with inner turmoil), her heart remains unsettled. She’s haunted by the bond she once shared with Elphaba, and makes one last effort to reconcile with her old friend. But with the forces of Oz growing more volatile, and a Kansas cyclone about to change the story forever, nothing goes as planned.
The film dives into the personal costs of power, fame and revolution. Boq (played by Ethan Slater) is caught in the crossfire. Nessarose (Marissa Bode) faces dangers that put her at odds with her sister. And when a girl from another world falls into Oz, the ripples affect everyone.
Also joining the cast are Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James as Glinda’s fawning high-society companions Pfannee and ShenShen, along with Sharon D. Clarke as the voice of Dulcibear, Elphaba’s childhood nanny.
The creative team behind the scenes is just as stacked with talent. Producers Marc Platt and David Stone return, backed by executive producers Stephen Schwartz, Winnie Holzman, Dana Fox and more. The screenplay is by Holzman and Fox, based on the original stage musical written by Holzman, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, adapted from the novel by Gregory Maguire. The film score is composed by John Powell and Stephen Schwartz.
Wicked: For Good is not just the end of a saga—it’s a love letter to unlikely friendship, female strength, and the power of rewriting your story. Expect stunning visuals, goosebump-raising music, and a final act that will leave audiences soaring.
Wicked: For Good opens in cinemas this November. Get ready to defy gravity… one last time.
