Youth Theatre Brings Footloose to the Liverpool Empire

30-07-25

Liverpool Empire Youth Theatre returns this August with Footloose, a high-energy musical performed by emerging talent from across the city region.

This weekend, the stage at the Liverpool Empire Theatre will be handed over to its in-house Youth Theatre for their latest production: Footloose. Performances take place Friday 8 August at 7.30pm, and Saturday 9 August at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Set in the fictional town of Bomont, the musical follows teenager Ren as he adjusts to small-town life and pushes back against a ban on dancing and rock music. Based on the original 1984 film, the musical includes hits such as Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It for the Boy and the title track Footloose.

This youth-led production is directed and performed by participants from the Liverpool City Region, working under the guidance of the Liverpool Empire Theatre’s Creative Learning team. Rehearsals have taken place on-site at the Empire, offering cast and crew the experience of working in one of the city’s most iconic venues.

The project is part of the theatre’s year-round outreach and training work. It offers performance, production and mentoring opportunities to young people across Merseyside, building skills and confidence in a professional theatre environment.

Footloose features a stage adaptation by Dean Pitchford and Walter Robbie, with music by Tom Snow and lyrics by Dean Pitchford. Additional music is by Eric Carmen, Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins and Jim Steinman. This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd.
