West End Woofs Returns to Covent Garden

02-08-25

West End Woofs (and Meows) returns to St Paul’s Church, Covent Garden next Saturday. The adoption event brings together theatre names, rescue charities and four-legged guests for its third annual live edition.

On Saturday 9 August, West End Woofs (and Meows) will take over the churchyard at St Paul’s from 10.15am. The event is co-hosted by Dame Elaine Paige and Bernadette Peters, who reunite for the third year running to champion pet adoption with support from West End performers and rescue shelters.

The event begins with a public meet-and-greet with adoptable dogs and cats. From 11.00am, animals will be introduced on stage alongside guests from Hamilton, Les Misérables, Oliver!, The Devil Wears Prada and The Phantom of the Opera. Scheduled performers and speakers include Harry Apps, Richard Dempsey, Peter Egan, Claire-Marie Hall, Cassidy Janson, Robert Lindsay, Frances Mayli McCann, Mazz Murray, Paul Nicholas, Lesley Nicol, Orfeh, John Owen Jones, Joanna Riding, Wayne Sleep and Helen Worth.

Admission to West End Woofs is ticketed. Tickets cost £5 and must be booked in advance at www.westendwoofs.dog. Proceeds support the work of the participating charities.

The event includes animals from eight UK-based shelters and rescue groups: All Dogs Matter, Fetcher Dog Rescue Centre, Home Run Hounds, Noah’s Ark Dog Rescue, Peterborough Cat Rescue, Pro Dogs Direct, Saving Saints Rescue and Saving Souls Animal Rescue. Mayhew’s TheraPaws programme will also be present to demonstrate their animal-assisted wellbeing work.

West End Woofs was first held as a virtual event in 2020 before launching live in 2023. It is modelled on Broadway Barks, the long-running New York adoption event co-founded by Peters. Dozens of animals found homes through last year’s West End event. The 2025 edition will again spotlight the role of theatre communities in promoting animal welfare.

Ticketholders gain access to both the adoption meet-and-greet and the staged performances. Dogs and cats featured on the day will be available for adoption through their individual rescue groups.
