Skylar Astin and Sarah Hyland to make West End debuts in Cabaret

Pitch Perfect star Skylar Astin and Modern Family favourite Sarah Hyland are heading to the West End, joining the cast of Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club this autumn.

Both actors will make their West End debuts when they take over as the Emcee and Sally Bowles respectively from 21 September 2026. Astin will remain with the production until 12 December 2026, while Hyland will play her final performance on 23 January 2027.

Skylar Astin is best known for playing Jesse Swanson in Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2, alongside his television roles in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and So Help Me Todd. He is also no stranger to musical theatre. Astin originated the role of Georg Zirschnitz in Spring Awakening on Broadway and has played Mark Cohen in Rent, the Baker in Into the Woods, Tony in West Side Story and Seymour Krelborn in Little Shop of Horrors.

Sarah Hyland spent 11 seasons playing Haley Dunphy in the hit comedy Modern Family. Her stage credits include Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby and Connie Francis in Just in Time on Broadway, alongside Audrey in the Off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors. She also appeared in Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, giving the incoming Cabaret stars another connection to the Pitch Perfect world.

Joining Astin and Hyland in the company from September will be Ronan Burns as Ernst Ludwig and Lindsay Atherton as Fraulein Kost/Fritzie.

Baker Mukasa continues as Clifford Bradshaw, alongside West End favourite Ruthie Henshall as Fraulein Schneider and Robert Hands as Herr Schultz.

The casting announcement comes during a landmark year for Cabaret. The musical celebrates its 60th anniversary in November, having originally opened on Broadway on 20 November 1966, while the current London production marks five years since opening in the West End.

A special performance will take place at the Kit Kat Club on 20 November, with a limited allocation of anniversary tickets priced at £19.66, £60 and £196.60. Rebecca Frecknall’s production has now surpassed 1,900 performances, making it the longest-running production of Cabaret in West End history. The production opened in 2021 and went on to win seven Olivier Awards in 2022. The Playhouse Theatre was extensively transformed for the production, with audiences entering the venue as the Kit Kat Club and encountering pre-show entertainment before taking their seats in its in-the-round auditorium. Featuring music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and a book by Joe Masteroff, Cabaret includes “Wilkommen”, “Don’t Tell Mama”, “Mein Herr”, “Maybe This Time”, “Money” and the title song.
