Darren Criss raises hell at Exorcistic opening night

On September 8, Exorcistic: The Rock Musical opened at Asylum NYC with Darren Criss performing as guest star in “The Devil.” The production, written by Michael Shaw Fisher (book, music and lyrics), is a parody of The Exorcist and combines horror-comedy with 19 original rock numbers, audience interaction, and cabaret-style performance.

 The cast features Emma Hunton (Good Trouble), Ethan Crystal, Jesse Merlin, Steven Cutts, Michael Shaw Fisher, Leigh Wulff, Jaime Lyn Beatty, Richardson Cisneros-Jones and Hannah Bonnett. The show is directed by Chadd McMillan and Alli Miller-Fisher, with producing credits including Emma Hunton, Alli Miller-Fisher, Chadd McMillan and Mia Criss, in association with Lance Bass, Mark Giberson, Marciel Greene and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

Opening night attendees included Adam Lambert, Frankie Grande, Courtney Reed, Krysta Rodriguez, Michael Longoria, Jak Malone, Benj Pasek, Constantine Maroulis, Marcus Choi, Taylor Symone Jackson, Anna Grace Barlow, Charlene Kaye, Alexandra Socha, Jackie Tohn, Charlene Incarnate and Anaïs Reno.

Exorcistic has previously won LA Drama Critics Circle Best Music and Lyrics (2023) and BroadwayWorld’s Off-Off Broadway Award for Best New Musical (2024). The show originated in Los Angeles and has since played in Las Vegas and New York.

A key feature of the production is its rotating “Broadway Diva” guest star, with upcoming appearances scheduled from Nicci Claspell, Charlene Incarnate, Orfeh, Sophia Urista, Jaime Cepero, Madeleine Heil, Kimberly Nicole, Ryann Redmond, Emily Martinez and Nick Cearley. Previous guests have included Marissa Jaret Winokur, Jordan Donica, Lindsay Heather Pearce, Garret Clayton and Carly Jibson.
