Desperate Housewives star Teri Hatcher is swapping Wisteria Lane for Runway magazine as she joins the West End cast of The Devil Wears Prada.

The Golden Globe-winning actress will take over as Miranda Priestly at the Dominion Theatre from 20 October 2026, following Vanessa Williams’ departure from the musical on 19 September. Debbie Kurup will step into Miranda’s designer heels for the interim period, playing the role from Williams’ departure until 17 October. Hatcher is best known around the world as Susan Mayer in Desperate Housewives and Lois Lane in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. She also appeared as Bond girl Paris Carver opposite Pierce Brosnan in Tomorrow Never Dies. But the West End won’t be her first encounter with musical theatre. Hatcher previously played Sally Bowles in a US tour of Sam Mendes’ revival of Cabaret and more recently appeared as Morticia Addams in The Addams Family.

Speaking about taking on Miranda, Hatcher said: “I’ve been fortunate enough to play some pretty formidable women throughout my career, but very few can compare to THE Miranda Priestly.” She added that she was looking forward to embracing the character’s “sharp wit, fierce ambition, and iconic style”. Hatcher is currently scheduled to remain with the production until 6 February 2027, while The Devil Wears Prada itself is now booking at the Dominion Theatre until 25 September 2027.

The casting marks the biggest change yet for the West End production, with Williams having led the company as Miranda since the musical arrived in London in December 2024.  The show is also approaching another milestone, with its 800th performance taking place on 23 September. Producers say more than 1.3 million tickets have now been sold, making it the fastest-selling production in the Dominion Theatre’s history. Based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel and the 2006 film, the musical follows aspiring journalist Andy Sachs as she lands a job at Runway magazine working for the fearsome Miranda Priestly. Elton John provides the score, with lyrics by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick and a book by Kate Wetherhead. Jerry Mitchell provides direction and choreography.

Fashion remains at the heart of the stage adaptation, with Tony Award-winning costume designer Gregg Barnes incorporating labels including Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Balmain alongside vintage and second-hand pieces. Hatcher’s arrival means audiences will now get a very different Miranda at the centre of that world, and with a run currently scheduled for more than three months, she’ll have plenty of time to make Runway her own.

Teri Hatcher joins The Devil Wears Prada at the Dominion Theatre from 20 October 2026 until 6 February 2027. The musical is currently booking until 25 September 2027.
